How to maximize yields from your groundwater supply
As an alternative to conventional vertical wells, Layne Christensen Company also constructs radial
collector wells through its Ranney Collector Wells group. These wells are generally comprised of a
vertical reinforced concrete shaft with horizontal lateral well screens projected out into the
aquifer to collect and filter the groundwater.
Typically installed in alluvial aquifers close to a dependable surface water source, these wells take
advantage of a natural filtering process referred to as Riverbank Filtration (RBF). This natural
filtration can simplify treatment and ensure the owner of high quality and high capacity water
production.
The RBF collector well installed for the Louisville Water Company is typical of these applications,
developing a reliable supply of over 15 million gallons per day of naturally filtered river water
(pictured at right).
Ranney Collector Wells can also be used for developing moderate to high capacity groundwater supplies.
We also construct infiltration galleries and surface water intakes at sites nationwide and overseas.
