Well Construction
|
|
A central reinforced concrete caisson serves as the wet well or pumping station. This caisson is
constructed using the open-end caisson sinking method until the lower section of the caisson reaches
the depth in the aquifer where the lateral well screens are to be installed. Once this depth is
reached, a bottom sealing plug is poured to make the caisson water-tight.
Lateral well screens are then projected out into the aquifer from within the caisson using specialized
jacking techniques to meet

anticipated aquifer conditions. The lateral screens can be projected at one
or more elevation, in a variety of patterns and lengths to optimize the well yield and performance. If
required, gravel-packed well screens can be installed to accommodate fine-grained aquifer formations, if
encountered.
The caisson is then typically extended above known or anticipated flood elevations and completed with
pumping equipment, controls and conveyance system.
