Collector Inspection
Periodic inspection and performance testing is recommended as part of a standard preventative maintenance
program for any well system. Our Ranney® Horizontal Collector
Well inspection services include: underwater
video inspection of the entire accessible lateral lengths; underwater photography; individual lateral water
quality sampling and monitoring; lateral flow and temperature analysis; well performance testing with
pumping rate and water level monitoring; and, long term record keeping program to track well capacity and
efficiency.
Collector Maintenance
Over time, depending upon water quality and operational conditions, collector lateral well screens, as with
any water well screens, may gradually become encrusted due to bio-fouling, mineral precipitation or migration
of fines. Lateral well screen maintenance is typically performed using a variety of specialized methods,
adapted for horizontal well screens. Where possible, the caisson is maintained in a fully-dewatered condition
to allow the full available hydrostatic pressure in the formation to be used to optimize the redevelopment
process. If it is necessary to maintain the well in service during the cleaning and redevelopment process,
we can use one of our custom-designed cleaning and redevelopment processes that will avoid service interruption.
We also have the diverse services of Layne Christensen available to utilize combinations of rehabilitation
methods, where appropriate, including chemical, sonic and pulse technologies such as the BoreBlast II Technology.
New Lateral Installation
Existing collector wells can also be rehabilitated with installation of new lateral well screens, where necessary.
These new screens can be installed within the existing caisson, minimizing the cost to result in an essentially
new installation, without the cost of related infrastructure replacement. The replacement lateral well screens
can be made of a variety of materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys, or even plastic materials,
such as PVC and fiberglass.
